Also in limbo: a third budget reconciliation bill carrying additional funding tied to the war effort with Iran and other administration priorities. Some Senate Republicans are said to be weighing whether to push any vote on it past the November midterms entirely, which would turn a legislative decision into a campaign issue by default.
None of this is unusual by Washington standards — recess deadlines get real in September, not August. But with a shutdown clock and a contested reconciliation bill both waiting on the other side of Labor Day, this recess has less slack in it than most.
